We are seeking an experienced Cardiac Echo Technologist (Cardiac Sonographer / Echo Tech) to join the cardiology imaging team at the Audie L. Murphy VA Medical Center, part of the South Texas Veterans Health Care System in San Antonio, Texas. In this role you will perform high-quality diagnostic echocardiographic examinations that help physicians evaluate and treat the cardiac health of our nation’s Veterans. Working under the direction of cardiologists and radiologists, you will operate advanced ultrasound equipment to capture 2D, M-mode, Doppler, and color-flow images of the heart and great vessels, ensuring diagnostic accuracy and patient comfort throughout each study. This position offers a predictable schedule of 8 or 10 hour shifts with no on-call or call-back requirements, allowing you to deliver exceptional care in a mission-driven, Veteran-centered environment.

Qualification and Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience performing adult cardiac echocardiography
  • Current registration as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI)
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Graduate of an accredited diagnostic cardiac sonography or ultrasound program (Associate degree or equivalent)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, hemodynamics, and ultrasound physics
  • Proficiency operating echocardiography equipment and performing 2D, M-mode, spectral and color Doppler, and strain imaging
  • U.S. citizenship and proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Ability to stand for extended periods, position patients, and pass required background checks and health screenings

Responsibilities

  • Perform complete diagnostic transthoracic echocardiograms, including 2D, M-mode, spectral and color Doppler, and related measurements, according to established protocols
  • Assist physicians with transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), stress echocardiograms, and contrast studies as required
  • Operate and properly maintain ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic cardiac images
  • Review physician orders and patient history to determine the appropriate examination and imaging approach
  • Record accurate measurements and preliminary observations for interpretation by the cardiologist
  • Assess and respond to patient needs before, during, and after imaging procedures, ensuring comfort and safety
  • Recognize and communicate urgent or abnormal findings to the interpreting physician in a timely manner
  • Document examinations completely and accurately in the electronic medical record and PACS
  • Adhere to infection control standards, VA policies, and diagnostic imaging quality and safety guidelines
  • Maintain patient confidentiality, dignity, and a professional care environment at all times
